Whindo Check-In Utility: Barcode Scanner Purchase Guide

There are many scanners on the market and this article will outline the technical requirements of a scanner to be compatible with the Whindo Check-In utility. First, the scanner should be able to read the Code 128 symbology. This is one of the more common barcode types and all scanners on the market should be able to read this type of barcode. Second, the scanner should have a USB cable to connect with a computer. Note: The computer must have internet connectivity during check-in to work with the scanner. And that’s is it.

Our recommendation is the LS2208 Motorola Symbol Bar Code Reader. This scanner when compared to cheaper imitations (although they work as well) tends to outperform in a few key areas. We are not scanner specialist, but these are our observations.

Recognition - LS2208 tends to read the barcodes faster and more consistently. By this I mean when the trigger is pulled it tends to read the barcode almost instantly even with semi-translucent paper tickets. The cheaper versions will read the code, but you sometimes have to manipulate the paper ticket to a certain angle or distance from the scanner.

Ambient Light - Extremely dark (evening event) or extremely bright (outside daytime event) conditions can render the cheaper versions inoperable.
